Importance of the short game....

Working at a golf academy every day i notice the same old pattern......full driving range, empty short game areas. This is the main reason behind some people high handicap.

‘on average, 70% of a 28 handicappers shots are
played from inside 80 yards’.

Don’t believe it?? Then break it down, start with your putting which is 35-40 of your 100 shots in a round. Then you chip and pitch on every hole (sometimes twice) so we can call that 20, and we haven’t even started touching on fuller pitch shots and duffed approaches.

Next time you head to the range don’t just take your driver along (a club you might use 12 times in a round of golf) take some clubs that you require during a round of golf. Your scores will drop quicker by targeting the areas where most shots are taken. Hitting the ball 10 yards further is all good fun, but it doesn’t get the ball in the hole. Practice your short game!!

It doesn't have to be a rebuild......

Too often when taking a lesson the pupil stands in front of you and comes up with the classic line...’my mates said not to have lessons’ and ‘a golf professional will just tear you apart and make you worse’, these lines always bring a smile to my face and determination to prove their golf pals wrong.

Golf lessons do not have to be a golf swing demolition job, no wrecking ball is needed. As a coach i understand that you want the game to be fun, the game is your hobby at the end of the day, not a chore!!

With simple pointers on swing flaws you can quickly progress and lose your slice, hook or heavy shots and play better golf...so don’t be scared to seek a lesson. A good Professional will cater to your needs and move you forwards setting realistic goals. Enjoy your golf!!!

Backswing Sway

38% of players sway on the backswing, this can have catastrophic effect on your ball striking. A central position over tha ball is essential for pure ball striking.

A TPI screen will identify the physical limitations you have causing this severe swing fault, check out how to go about this at www.dangalegolf.com

Good Luck Phil!

It’s about time we had a lefty at world number 1. Good luck Phil Mickleson. If you get there then a lot of hard work has certainly paid off, especially through some tough personal times.

Tiger at Firestone

Check out Tiger, ok he isn’t swinging it great but he loves this Firestone track and looked like he was coming back to sorts at Pebble Beach. Is he on the come back??

The guy is going through some tough times right now but I for one think it would be great to see him back on song soon. Afterall he is the guy who has made the sport of golf so exciting, encouraged youngsters to play and mainly other take golf away from being just a rich, white mans sport.

I admit that what he has done is wrong and has seriously damaged a lot of his credibility however he is a golfing phenomenon and was put on this earth to win tournaments and make a difference to others. Lets hope he is back to his old self soon.
